The Dracut Fire Department is deeply saddened to announce the untimely passing of Firefighter Jake Martin, an active-duty member of the department who dedicated his life to serving and protecting his community. Jake’s sudden death has left a profound sense of loss among his colleagues, family, friends, and all who knew him. His passing is a tragic reminder of the risks and sacrifices made every day by those committed to public safety.
Jake Martin, age 32, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday at Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington due to a medical condition. Surrounded by loved ones—including his family, friends, and fellow firefighters—Jake’s death has cast a shadow of grief over the entire department and community. The department remembers him as a dedicated, kind, and hardworking individual whose presence brought positivity and camaraderie to those around him.
A native of Lowell, Massachusetts, Jake was a 2011 graduate of Greater Lowell Technical High School. Following in his family’s footsteps, he became a second-generation firefighter; his father, retired Dracut Fire Lieutenant Paul Martin, and his uncle, retired firefighter Marc Martin, have long served their community with honor. Jake’s passion for firefighting was evident from a young age, and he was committed to making a difference through his service.
In February of 2023, Jake graduated from the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy, quickly joining the Dracut Fire Department. He was assigned to Engine 2, working out of the Jones Avenue Fire Station. His colleagues remember him as a dedicated and eager firefighter, always willing to learn and lend a hand. Prior to joining the department, Jake gained valuable experience working with Pridestar Trinity EMS in Lowell, where he demonstrated compassion and skill in emergency medical care.
Jake is survived by his fiancée, Aislinn Kearns; his parents, Paul and Sheila Martin; a brother, Zach; a sister, Angela; and several other family members who loved him dearly. His loss leaves a deep void in their lives, and the community mourns alongside them.
Chief Cunha described Jake as a “laid-back, easygoing, and always smiling” individual who found joy in the little things, such as playing his guitar during downtime or volunteering for the District 6 Forestry Hand Crew. “Jake was truly part of our family,” the chief said. “His dedication, kindness, and positive spirit will be missed, but his legacy will live on in the memories of those he touched.”
Arrangements for Jake Martin’s funeral service will be announced as soon as they are finalized. The Dracut Fire Department and the entire community extend their heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones during this difficult time, honoring his service and remembering a brave firefighter taken too soon.
